The earliest records of the University date back to 1209 – with the first college of the University being founded in 1284. The University of Cambridge is today one of the world’s leading research institutions.

Within the VAMDC, members of two departments represent the University: the Institute of Astronomy (IoA – see http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/ ), and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP – see http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/ ).

The IoA provide technical support to the VAMDC consortium, in particular of the portal, and interfaces to new databases. DAMTP provide access to the CHIANTI database.
